Progressions

One of the main things I hear from people who want to work out with me is: ” I can’t do a …”:

  • Push up
  • Pull up
  • Etc.

My reply is “You can’t do a …, so what!”

Not everyone can do these exercises and its not a big deal. Because with hard work, consistency, and knowing how to break an exercise down so you CAN get to the final goal and learn to do the exercise anywhere! I will break it down and “teach” you that there are options for every exercise. Your body is an amazing thing and can be trained to do almost anything.

Things to keep in mind when progressing:

  • Breathe - Breathing is often over looked as a key element.  Remember to exhale on the exertion (tough part) of the rep. Breathing correctly will not only get the oxygen to your muscles that they need but can also be a psychological motivator for power movements.
  • Focus on Perfect Form - Always perform exercises through the full range of motion. Then you can progress in the intenisty or load of the exercise. If you cannot perform and exercise through the full range of motion, dial it back to an easier progression or lower level.
  • Don’t Strain to Gain - Safety first, to avoid pain and injury do not compromise your alignment by forcing reps. Forcing through reps and movement can lead to injury, and you’ll be sitting back on the couch in no time. Be smart and progress safely!
